Crow River Youth Band
An advanced instrumental music opportunity for band students in the Northwest Twin Cities Metro.
The Crow River Youth Band, led by Mr. Nelson Penserga, is new to Encore Ensembles in Fall 2025.
Is your child ready for a challenge musically? Are they ready to explore more difficult music with other likeminded students?
Whether your child attends public school, private school, or is homeschooled, there is a place for them in the Crow River Youth Band!
This ensemble is designed with intermediate and advanced students in mind. Students will complete an audition process to gain entry into the ensemble.
The purpose of this youth band is to bring together students who have had at least 2 years of experience or more in their band programs and are searching for an opportunity to play higher level music that is more advanced. The music is geared towards older middle school and high school students.
Location: This ensemble will be hosted at St. Michael Albertville Middle School West on Monday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 pm. Rehearsals will start Monday, October 20th, 2025 and conclude April 2026.
Performances: The Crow River Youth Band will perform 2 concerts each school year.

Audition Process
To complete the audition, your child will prepare their Bb and Eb concert scales, as well as an etude for their instrument. Please video record these auditions and email them to Nelson Penserga.

What age does my student have to be to participate in the Crow River Youth Band?
No matter their age, as long as your child has had at least 2 years of experience in their own band program, they can audition for the Crow River Youth Band!
What are the audition requirements?
Your child should prepare their Bb and Eb concert scales, as well as the provided etude for their instrument. These will be submitted via video audition.
Is there a way to try out the band before committing?
Not at this time. Due to the level of planning needed, this ensemble is a full year commitment.
When are the performances?
Concerts will take place in February and April.

What time do rehearsals take place?
Mondays, starting October 20th from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.
What is the cost to participate?
$336 for the year (October - April). You can pay this in one payment or two.
